If you're running into issues where MIDI notes are getting stuck, freezing, or hanging when using Musio, we’ve got a few things you can check to resolve the issue:
Step 1: Make Sure You’re Using the Latest Version of Musio
We’re constantly improving performance and stability in each update, so it’s a great first step.
- Open Musio Connect.
- Check the bottom-left corner. If you see a red update link, click it to install the latest version.
Step 2: Check Your Sustain Pedal (CC64) Data
Sustain pedal (MIDI CC64) messages can accidentally keep notes hanging if they're not turned off properly.
- Look at your MIDI lane on the track and check for CC64 messages near the hanging notes. Delete any errant data.
- Make sure the pedal is turned off (value = 0) where appropriate.
Step 3: Try the MIDI Reset Button
Sometimes, stuck notes can be cleared with a MIDI reset:
- Open Musio.
- Load up the instrument patch getting the stuck notes.
- Click the MIDI Reset button in the top left corner of the Musio interface (the triangle with the exclamation point “!” in it).
Step 4: Check MIDI Driver Settings
- One user fixed this issue by changing their MIDI driver from MME to UWP. It may be worth trying to change yours if possible.
Step 5: Try Changing Musio Connect Settings
Try changing some settings in Musio Connect in case it is related to a CPU issue:
- Open Musio Connect (Musio's companion app),
- Click Settings,
- Scroll down to Plugin/Standalone, and find Enable Additional Voice Killing. Please enable this (if it isn't already enabled) as it will allow Musio to terminate extraneous voices across instruments to avoid dropouts.
- In that same section in Musio Connect, also find Sample Preload Size. You could try increasing this number to see if that helps. This increases the amount of sample data to buffer into RAM when an instrument is loaded.
Step 6: Increase Your Audio Buffer Size
- Open Musio.
- On the top bar of your desktop, click Musio > Settings > Audio/MIDI Settings.
- Increase your Audio Buffer Size to at least 512 samples, or higher if your system allows.
