If you hit play (via the spacebar) in Cubase and the volume in your Musio instrument suddenly drops to zero or lowers in volume, don’t worry! This is usually related to how Cubase handles MIDI volume data (CC7). Here’s how to fix it:
Step 1: Check Cubase’s MIDI Fader
Cubase has a MIDI fader that sends CC7 (volume) messages by default, which can override the volume setting inside Musio.
-
Locate the MIDI fader for the track that has Musio loaded where this issue is happening.
- Please see the screenshot below for the location.
-
Set the MIDI fader to “Off”.
- Make sure to set this fader to “Off” and not “0” as setting it to 0 still send a “volume = 0” message to Musio.
Step 2: Check for Unwanted MIDI CC Data
If Musio’s volume still drops after the step above:
- Open the automation lane for the track.
- Look for CC7 (volume) data.
- Delete any CC7 entries that might be accidentally resetting the volume.
This will prevent Cubase from sending unwanted volume messages to Musio.
Step 3: Unplug Pedals (If Using Any)
If you're using a sustain or expression pedal (like the Roland EV-5), try temporarily unplugging it. Some pedals can send unexpected data that might interfere with volume settings.
