If you are experiencing issues with Musio, sometimes ensuring that your external hard drive has the correct permissions can help resolve them. Follow the steps below to check and update your drive's permissions based on your operating system:
For macOS
Step 1: Check and Update Permissions
- Right-click the external hard drive icon on your desktop and select Get Info.
- Scroll down to the Sharing & Permissions section. (You may need to click the arrow to expand this section.)
Step 2: Unlock and Adjust Permissions
- Click the lock icon at the bottom right of the window and enter your admin password if prompted.
-
In the Privilege column, ensure that your account has Read & Write access.
- If it does not, change it to Read & Write.
If Permissions Can’t Be Adjusted
If you are unable to change the permissions, try the following:
- Log out of your current account and log into an admin account.
- Repeat Step 1 and Step 2 above for your main account.
- If your account isn’t listed under Sharing & Permissions, click the + button at the bottom left to add your account.
- Set the new entry to Read & Write.
Still Can’t Adjust Permissions?
If you're still unable to change permissions:
- Contact your computer administrator or organization for assistance.
-
Try using a different external hard drive that already has Read & Write permissions.
- Open Musio Connect.
- Click Instruments, then set the Samples Location (at the top) to the new drive.
For Windows
Step 1: Check and Update Permissions
- Open File Explorer and locate your external hard drive.
- Right-click the drive and select Properties.
- Go to the Security tab.
Step 2: Access Security Settings
- In the Properties window, click on the Security tab.
- Here, you'll see a list of groups and users with their associated permissions.
Step 3: Modify Permissions
- Click the Edit button to change permissions.
- In the Permissions window, select your account and check the permissions boxes to allow all permissions including Full Control.
Step 4: Advanced Settings
- For more detailed control, click the Advanced button.
- In the Advanced Security Settings window, if needed, you can change the owner of the drive to you by clicking Change next to the Owner label.
If Permissions Cannot Be Updated
- Log into an admin account and update the permissions for your main account (or ask an administrator to grant your account Full Permissions).
-
If you don’t have admin access, try using a different external hard drive with Full Permissions and updating the Samples Location in Musio Connect:
- Open Musio Connect.
- Click Instruments and change the Samples Location to the new drive.
