If loading instruments in Musio feels unusually slow, let’s go through a few steps to troubleshoot the issue and get things running smoothly:
Step 1: Identify Affected Instruments
- Are the slow load times happening with all instruments or just specific ones?
- If it’s specific instruments, check if they are Legato, Ensemble, or Keyswitch patches.
These patches are larger and require more samples, so they naturally take longer to load and that might explain what is happening.
Step 2: Check for VPN, Firewall, or Antivirus Interference
- Are you using a VPN, proxy, firewall, or antivirus software? These programs can slow down loading because they scan data as it’s being accessed.
- If so, please add and whitelist Musio, Musio Connect, and r2.cloudflarestorage.com to the exceptions or allowed apps list in your firewall or antivirus settings.
Step 3: Update Musio
- Keeping Musio up to date can resolve performance issues.
- Open Musio Connect.
- Look for a red Update link in the bottom-left corner.
- If you see it, click the link to download and install the latest version.

Step 4: Check External Hard Drive Formatting (macOS Users)
If you’re storing samples on an external hard drive and the issue persists:
- Locate the external drive on your desktop.
- Right-click the drive and select Get Info.
- Under General, look at the Format field.
Ensure the drive is not formatted as EXT4 or ExFAT, as these formats are not optimized for macOS and can cause slow performance.
