If you’re seeing this message when trying to load an instrument in Musio, it typically means that Musio can’t locate the sample files needed to play that instrument. Let’s walk through how to fix it:
Step 1: Check the Samples Location
- Open Musio Connect (Musio’s companion app)
- Click the Instruments page in the middle
- At the top center, look for Samples Location
- Is the path listed there pointing to the folder where your samples are actually stored (e.g., your external hard drive)?
- If not, click the red “Move…” button and choose the correct location.
- If it is, move on to Step 2 below.

Step 2: Verify and Repair the Instruments
- In Musio Connect, go to Instruments
- Find the instrument showing the error and click it
- Click Verify Files (bottom right)
- Then click Repair
If that fixed the issue for one instrument, you can batch-fix the rest:
- Go back to the homepage of Musio Connect
- Click the Instruments dropdown in the top-left
- Select Verify Instruments
- Then click Repair All Instruments
