This error occurs when Musio Connect is unable to access the external hard drive where your samples are stored. It’s often a permissions issue, but don’t worry—here’s how you can fix it:
For macOS
Step 1: Check and Update Permissions
- Right-click on the external hard drive icon on your desktop and select Get Info.
- Scroll down to the Sharing & Permissions section.
- Unlock permissions:
- Click the lock icon at the bottom of the window and enter your admin password (if prompted).
- Adjust your account's permissions to Read & Write.
- If permissions can't be adjusted:
- Log out of your current account and log into an admin account.
- Open the drive’s Get Info window and update permissions for your account:
- If your account isn’t listed, click the + button, add your account, and set it to Read & Write.
- Still can’t adjust permissions?
- Contact your computer administrator to update permissions.
- Alternatively, connect a different external hard drive, and point Musio to it:
- Open Musio Connect.
- Click Instruments, then set the Samples Location (at the top) to the new drive.
For Windows
Step 1: Check and Update Permissions
- Open File Explorer and locate the external hard drive where your samples are stored.
- Right-click the drive and select Properties.
- Go to the Security tab and check your account’s permissions.
- To adjust permissions:
- Click Edit and select your account.
- Ensure Full Control is checked under Permissions.
- Click Apply and OK.
- If permissions cannot be updated:
- Log into an admin account to update the settings.
- If you don’t have admin access, try connecting a different external hard drive and updating the Samples Location in Musio Connect:
- Open Musio Connect.
- Click Instruments and change the Samples Location to the new drive.
