If you update Musio and find that instruments you downloaded previously in Musio are suddenly no longer showing as downloaded, here’s what to do:
This issue likely happened if you selected “Clean Install” while updating Musio. That option will remove the installed instrument files from Musio which means it will now look like you haven’t downloaded anything yet in the Musio application. This “Clean Install” option is typically only used when a user wants to completely uninstall Musio or in extreme technical issue cases.
The good news is, the actual audio files themselves of the instruments you previously downloaded have not been deleted. They’re still safely stored in your designated Samples Location (like an external drive).
Step 1: Make Sure Musio Is Pointing to the Correct Samples Folder
- Open Musio Connect
- Click Instruments (middle)
- Look at the top for Samples Location
- Click the red “Move…” button and reselect the folder where your samples are stored. This reconnects Musio to your downloaded samples.
Step 2: Restore Your Instruments in Musio
There’s no “restore all” button, but you can quickly get things back in two ways:
Option 1: Open an Old DAW Session
- Opening a digital audio workstation (DAW) session that already used Musio instruments will automatically reload them. Since the samples are still on disk, this process is usually very quick.
Option 2: Manually Reload Instruments
- Inside the Musio app, click Load on any instrument you previously downloaded. Musio will detect the local files and load them without needing to re-download the full sample content.
