This article will guide you through loading Musio as an instrument plugin in Pro Tools. It also includes troubleshooting steps in case Musio doesn’t appear in your list of available plugins.
How To Load Musio As An Instrument Plug-in In Pro Tools
Please follow the instructions in the following screenshots to load Musio as a plug-in in Pro Tools:
What to Do If Musio Doesn’t Appear as a Plugin in Pro Tools
Pro Tools should automatically detect new plugins when launched. If Musio does not appear in the Instrument category, first, restart your computer and then follow these troubleshooting steps:
Step 1: Verify That You Are Using a 64-Bit Version of Pro Tools
- Musio is a 64-bit plugin and will not work in 32-bit versions of Pro Tools.
- Pro Tools has been 64-bit since version 11.0. If you are using an older version, this may be why Musio is not appearing.
If your version of Pro Tools is 64-bit, continue to the next step.
Step 2: Check That Musio Is Installed in the Correct Plugin Folder
Musio should be located in the following default plugin folders:
- macOS: Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Avid > Audio > Plug-Ins
- Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins\
🔹 If Musio is missing from these folders: Try reinstalling Musio from portal.musio.com.
Step 3: Rescan Plugins in Pro Tools
- Open Pro Tools and check if Musio is listed in the plugin menu.
- You should be able to click on an Insert, click ‘multichannel plug-in’ and then ‘Instrument’ and then ‘Musio (stereo)’. If Musio still isn’t showing up there, close Pro Tools and move on to the next step.
Step 4: Reset Pro Tools Plugin Preferences
Resetting plugin preferences forces Pro Tools to rescan installed plugins. Back up anything that you want to keep before you proceed:
On macOS:
- Open Finder and select Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
- Type: ~/Library/Preferences
-
Delete the following files:
- com.digidesign.ProTools.plist
- com.digidesign.ProTools.plist.lockfile
- DAE Prefs
- DigiSetup.OSX
- Pro Tools Prefs
- Empty your Trash and restart your computer.
On Windows:
- Open File Explorer and enable Show Hidden Items (View > Show Hidden Items).
-
Navigate to one of the following locations:
- C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\Avid\Pro Tools
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Digidesign\DAE\DAE Prefs
- Delete the entire DAE Prefs folder or delete the file named InstalledAAXPlugIns.
- Restart your computer.
Step 5: Relaunch Pro Tools
- Open Pro Tools, and it will automatically rescan all plugins.
- Musio should now appear in the Instrument category.
