Common Error Messages and How to Fix Them
Here are some error messages you might encounter during installation:
- “The program can’t start because MSVCP140.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “Code execution cannot continue because MSVCP140.dll was not found.”
- “Code execution cannot continue because VCRUNTIME140.dll was not found.”
- “The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2503.”
- “The installer has encountered an unexpected error…error code 2753.”
- "Musio setup wizard ended prematurely."
- "Musio installer cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'Musio installer.msi' from when you can install the product Musio."
If you see any of these messages (or something similar) on a Windows PC, follow these steps:
Step 1: Install this Microsoft Package
- Download and install the Visual C++ Redistributable Package from Microsoft:

In most cases, these files come pre-installed with Windows, but if they are missing or outdated, installing this package will restore them.
Step 2: Try Installing Musio Again
- Once the installation of the Microsoft package is complete, restart your computer and try installing Musio again by logging into your account at portal.musio.com and clicking one of the installer buttons in the top right corner.
