Here are some common questions and answers about the volume in Musio:
Why is Musio overall on the quieter side?
Musio is designed to run at a slightly quieter volume by default. The volume slider on each instrument is set to -6 dB and this is to allow headroom when using multiple instruments at once.
How to Increase Volume in Musio
If you’d like to make Musio louder, you have a few options:
-
Manually adjust the volume slider
- Increase the volume slider on each instrument to 0 dB for maximum output.
-
Change the default volume for all instruments
- To avoid adjusting each instrument manually, you can change the default volume:
- Open Musio Connect (Musio’s companion app).
- Go to Settings.
- Under Plugin/Standalone, find the option for Initial Instrument Volume.
- Set it to 0 dB so all new instruments load at a higher volume.
- To avoid adjusting each instrument manually, you can change the default volume:
-
Use a Gain plugin in your DAW
- If you still need more volume, you can add a Gain plugin to the track where Musio is loaded in your DAW to boost the signal.
If you notice that an instrument is so quiet that it’s nearly or completely inaudible, please reach out to our Support team at support@musio.com so we can investigate.
How to Automate Volume in Musio
To automate Musio’s volume in your DAW:
- Draw in CC7 automation data on the instrument track where Musio is loaded.
- CC7 directly controls Musio’s volume slider, allowing you to adjust volume changes dynamically.
When I try to reduce the volume in Musio, it snaps back to its original position. (Or, the volume slider is maxed out for some reason.) What do I do?
The volume slider is likely accidentally being controlled by MIDI CC automation in your DAW. Musio’s volume slider responds to CC7, so any existing CC7 automation can override your manual changes and cause the slider to reset. Here’s what to check:
- Open your DAW and locate the track where the issue is happening.
- Open the automation lane for the track and look for MIDI CC7 data (CC7 = Volume).
- If you see any automation or events for CC7 on that track, delete or clear that data.
If removing the CC7 data doesn't resolve the issue, please send the DAW session where this is happening to support@musio.com so we can investigate. To do this, disable any third party plugins in the session, zip up your DAW session and then send the file as an attachment or share a Dropbox/Google Drive link to us. We'll open your session on our end and help troubleshoot further.
