While Musio was designed to work as a plugin within digital audio workstations (DAWs), many users have successfully integrated it with notation software like Sibelius and Dorico. In theory, Musio should work with any software that supports AU, VST3, or AAX plugins. However, compatibility can sometimes depend on specific software and operating system versions.
If you’d like to test Musio with your notation program of choice, we recommend signing up for the free 30-day trial. You won’t need a credit card, and there’s no obligation after the trial ends. Just visit www.musio.com and click "Try it Free" in the top-right corner.
Using Musio with NotePerformer in Notation Programs
While Musio should work with Sibelius, Dorico, etc. we recommend using Musio through a third-party software called NotePerformer for better results.
NotePerformer enhances notation playback by offering better sounds than the built-in samples included with most notation programs. With its Playback Engines system, you can run VST3 plugins like Musio more efficiently in notation software. If you’d like to use Musio with NotePerformer’s Playback Engines system, check out this guide on the NotePerformer website for setup instructions.
Important Note: Not all instruments available in Musio may be included in the Musio catalog within NotePerformer. This is due to how NotePerformer has structured its Musio template. If you have any questions regarding instrument availability or need any other help with NotePerformer, we recommend reaching out directly to NotePerformer support through the contact details at the bottom of this page as we don’t have control over what appears in NotePerformer and have limited support for the program.
Musio Compatibility with Specific Notation Programs
Finale
Finale has been discontinued as a product, so we cannot guarantee Musio will work with it. The best way to check is to download the 30-day free trial at musio.com and test it with your version of Finale.
Notion
Musio does not work with Notion at this time. Notion does not support VST3, which is the format Musio uses. We hope this changes in the future!
Staffpad
Staffpad is a notation app for iPad and Windows tablets that allows users to handwrite notation with a stylus. Musio is not officially supported in Staffpad at this time, but you’re welcome to test it using the 30-day free trial.
Sibelius
Musio should work with Sibelius, and we do recommend using NotePerformer for smoother integration.
If you prefer not to use NotePerformer and instead want to load Musio directly into Sibelius, please note that our support for third-party software is limited. However, Avid (the makers of Sibelius) recommended a guide on how to load third-party plugins into Sibelius, which you can read here.
If you encounter any issues, we recommend reaching out to Avid’s customer support, as they will be best equipped to assist you.
Dorico
Musio should work with Dorico, and like with Sibelius, we do recommend using NotePerformer for a better experience.
If you prefer not to use NotePerformer and want to load Musio directly into Dorico, we suggest watching this official Dorico YouTube tutorial on adding third-party plugins. For further assistance, we recommend contacting Dorico customer support, as our ability to provide support for third-party software is limited.
MuseScore
Musio is not officially supported in MuseScore, but you can test it yourself by downloading the 30-day free trial at musio.com.
