Musio is supported on GarageBand for Mac computers with an M1 chip or later.
Intel-Based Macs & GarageBand
Musio is not officially supported on GarageBand for Intel-based Macs. This is due to system-level restrictions that prevent GarageBand from interacting with Musio Connect properly. However, there is a possible workaround that may help:
Potential Workaround for Intel-Based Macs
If you're using GarageBand on an Intel-based Mac, there is a workaround you can try—though we can't guarantee it will work for every system:
Step 1: Check for Security Prompt
When you first opened Musio in GarageBand, did you see a pop-up that says: "Use of the requested audio units requires lowering the security settings for GarageBand. Are you sure you want to proceed?"
If so, you would’ve had to click "Lower Security Settings." If you clicked "Cancel" instead, GarageBand will block Musio from loading, and you will need to reset GarageBand’s preferences to try again.
Step 2: Reset GarageBand Preferences
To reset GarageBand preferences:
- Quit GarageBand.
- Open Terminal (found in Finder > Applications > Utilities).
- Paste the following command into terminal, and then press Return: defaults delete com.apple.garageband 10
- If you upgraded from an older version of GarageBand, also paste this command and press Return: defaults delete com.apple.garageband
- Restart your computer. Once your computer restarts, try launching GarageBand and opening Musio again.
If the Workaround Doesn’t Work
If the above steps don’t resolve the issue, GarageBand on Intel-based Macs may not be able to support Musio at this time.
