Musio is designed primarily as a virtual instrument plugin for DAWs, but we often get questions about whether it works with other software and platforms. This article answers some of the most frequently asked questions about Musio’s compatibility with non-DAW programs and hardware. (If you’re looking for information about Musio’s DAW compatibility, check out this article.)
Can I use Musio on an iPad, tablet, or phone (iOS)?
Right now, Musio is only available for macOS and Windows. While we’ve discussed creating an iOS version, it’s not something we have immediate plans for as we’re currently focused on other improvements. However, an iOS app isn’t off the table for the future!
Is Musio Silicon Native?
Yes, Musio runs natively on Apple Silicon (M1 & later) for optimized performance.
Does Musio support NKS (Native Kontrol Standard)?
Musio does not currently integrate with NKS, meaning you can’t load Musio inside the Komplete Kontrol plugin. However, you can still use a Komplete Kontrol keyboard as a MIDI controller with Musio, just like you would with any other MIDI device.
Will Musio support VST2?
Musio does not support VST2. Since VST2 licenses are being discontinued, we have no plans to add support. Musio is available as a VST3, AU, and AAX plugin.
Is Linux supported?
Musio is not officially supported on Linux. While we don’t have immediate plans to support Linux, it’s possible that could change in the future.
Does Musio work with MainStage?
Yes, Musio works in MainStage as part of the Logic ecosystem. If you’d like to try it out yourself, you can test it risk-free with a 30-day free trial at musio.com.
Is Musio compatible with Vienna Ensemble Pro (VE Pro)?
Yes, since Vienna Ensemble Pro now supports VST3, you can run Musio as a plugin within that environment. If you’re on macOS, you can also run Musio using AU (Audio Units).
What About Other Non-DAW Programs?
If you’re wondering why Musio compatibility with notation programs like Sibelius were not included in the article above, that is because notation programs have their own article and you can check that out here.
